I guess I wasn't too clear that I was making fun of people who see one completely unrelated thing happen soon after their vaccine and then wholeheartedly blame the vaccine. Oh, well... Glad some of you enjoyed it.

Yes, the author is biased towards science since he is an epidemiologist. But it is pretty obvious that the reason "Reuben" is blaming the vaccine for the fungal infection instead of the more obvious culprit, the gym, is due to "recall bias."

While I agree the alleged link between flu vaccine and fungal infection is clearly novel - I take issue with the biased author in the equally invalid claims if "recall bias."

@Chris

Reuben obviously didn't recognize the Athlete's Foot for what it was before he went to the doctor. It appears unclear from the story that his doctor did since it doesn't mention Reuben talking about the doctor's opinion, other than the doctor seemed unswayed about Reuben's connecting the symptoms to the vaccination. :)

Perhaps Reuben still didn't believe the doctor's diagnosis of Athlete's Foot?

P.S. Athlete's Foot can be very stuborn to get rid of, which might make it harder to convince Reuben. When I got it, likely from a roommate at college, it ebbed and waned for years but I never completely got rid of it, not even with an course of oral antifungal prescription, until I went Nuclear and used undiluted oil of oregano 3 times (in conjunction to, again, throwing out all my socks and buying new shoes). Not something that you should do lightly because apparently the oil itself can cause burns and even if it doesn't it stings like hell.

A case of apparently incurable lifelong stupidity. If only there were a vaccine for stupidity.

"Reuben":
In fact, the only thing I did different right before I got this was start a gym membership…

Am I the only who thinks that going to the gym is a more likely cause of athlete's foot?
