Naomi’s 20 week scan came up today so of we both went to the hospital. Looks like we’re having a daughter :o) – the scan lady said she was at least 95% certain it was a girl. Its a bit weird really as prior to Megan there hadn’t been any girls born into my side of the family for nearly 90 years. They’re like buses – two come along (almost) at once.
We decided we would ask for Freddie Foetus (as she’s been known up till now) to be gendered as it would save people (read: grandparents, the only people who really care about this stuff) the dilemma of buying pink or blue. Anyway, we wanted to know.
Anthony is bound to be thrilled we’re having another girl so I’ll take great pleasure in ringing him tonight to tell him.
So, as from now we’re studying girls names lists. Any suggestions (especially slightly out-of-the-ordinary/non-celeb/old style) you may have, dear reader, would be appreciated.
Congrats! Girls are fun you know π
I like Zoey or Zoe (it means ‘life’). And Abigale (means ‘a father’s joy’). These are rare and sweet π
Thanks Jinjiru, I like Zoe but I think it’ll take some work to get the wife to like it ;o)
I’m now in a process of choosing a name for my to-be-born-soon child – though I do not know the gender yet – and read a book about names and theiк influence on childs’ life – and I have to admit it is quite difficult to find a name that will give a baby a good destiny(life) and nice character and also suit my child’s patronymic (here in Russia we have a tradition to call people by name+patronymic instead of just first name.
So I like Zoe because it is nice, rare and gives a child a good character and destiny. I also like Maya and Lia.
P.S. I’m Jinjiru but nevermind π
Marianna, or Maz for short is always nice.
Ruth is also nice.
Not really unusual, but nice all the same.
Marianna has had a positive reception from ‘er indoors Matt but Ruth got the response ‘you want people to refer to our child as Babe Ruth?’.
I like Grace but Naomi’s luke-warm. She like Etienne which is a bit too prissy for me.
Etienne? WTF?! Whats that for short π
Grace is actually very common…
Fiona?
Etienne was actually Kevs first choice but he’s gone off it. He did’nt think it was ‘prissy’ 6 weeks ago.
I quite like Tabitha at the moment…
Tabitha is good. I like Tabby. I like Tamsin as well. I still like Grace more though.
Etienne is prissy. If you tell people I thought it wasn’t I’ll ban your IP range!
Oh wait….
Tabitha?
Maybe Im just not new age enough eh?
Tabby is nice, sounds like a cat, would be in trouble if your daughter was ginger π
If my daughter is ginger, her name wil be the least of my worries.
:D:D
Take yourself and Naomi are not giner then π
Nah, we’re both raven haired beauties. If by ‘both’ I meant her.
Isn’t Etienne French for “Steven”?
We quite liked Matilda until a day or two before our twins were born, when we decided it was a bit too wacky. In the end we went with Emily and Chloe, as we thought they were different without being too different – turns out they were the two most popular names in the country last year…
‘Steven’?
Thats that dealt the death blow then!
We both liked Chloe too but I think we’re finally settled on Tabitha. For now π
On the plus side Steven is a really unusual name for a girl – she’d be the only one in her class :o)
Oh no. My poor yet-to-be-born child :o(
Note to self: go down name registry office alone.
What about Kev 2?
Don’t encourage her.
etienne indeed is the french equivalent of steven/stephen. and whilst englishers would use it for girls, frenchies use it for boys.
[as an aside, being a steven who went out with a stephanie for a while, being introduced as steve and steve was an interesting social phenomenon ;)]
have you considered: sienna or narelle?
What about Kev 2?
Donβt encourage her.

I thought it was 3 not out!
How do you quote in this damn thing.
We were thinking about Sienna but then that girl married Jude Law and the name’s now really popular so we had to give it up.
blockquote baby, blockquote.
I’m quite keen on kev2 or maybe kevetta ;o)
*groan*
