Tom Cruise recently went on the Today Show (a US politics/lifestyle type show) to big up The War Of The Worlds. He and the host ended up discussing Tom’s bizarre atitude to Psychiatry (which he claims is a psuedoscience) and Scientology (which is obviously a much more rational thing to believe in!). Apparently Tom ‘lost the plot’ a bit and started raving.
I read a transcript of the interview (which I’ll link to in a minute) and its true. He’s almost frothing at the mouth. But what struck me the most was the eerie similarity in attitude between Cruise and the ant-vax/thimerosal crowd. All those people like Lujene Clarke, David Kirby, SafeMinds et al share the same beliefs as Cruise really: all science is a sham and they are the sole holders of (fanfare please) The Real Truth. They ignore reason, they ignore science, they alter and cherry-pick quotes to suit their agenda and they claim that they and only they are ‘well informed’ on the issue.
Its a dangerous arrogance that, just like Cruise, is short (sorry) on logic and big on bullshit and self-serving prophecy. Go have a read of the Cruise transcript and you’ll see what I mean immediately.
Amazing, just amazing how far you can go on spreading disease through media when you’re that popular.
I really want to say “Scientology my ass” but that’s too Cruiseish I guess.
Say it anyway Prab!
Or how about: “The scientific truth? YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE SCIENTIFIC TRUTH!!!”
Yes, Tom Cruise has definitely gone off the deep end. I only wish that Matt had pushed him on how he could label psychiatry “pseudoscience” yet is perfectly happy swallowing whole the pseudoscience that is the Scientology E-meter, auditing, and Narcanon. Apparently Tom isn’t as good at identifying pseudoscience as he thinks he is.
….”SHOW ME THE SCIENCE!”
I bet about now Nicole is feeling like she dodged a bullet, although Katie Holmes can’t be particularly bright if she hasn’t figured out yet that her fiance is a nutjob…
Does Tom Cruise actually believe that he has the capability to “liberate” the American public as to the credibility of psychiatry? He is an actor, and not a very good one at that. As someone who has battled with depression my entire life, I found his blanket comments ridiculously offensive. And as for his statements about being one of the selected few who knows the history of psychiatry, he made no efforts to give examples to back up his claims. His attempts to belittle Matt Lauer failed miserably and turned him into a bigger joke than he already was. Someone needs to put these overpaid celebrities in their place. I will never waste one single box office dollar to see a Cruise motivated film. I hope others will follow suit. This is the only way that this narcissistic megalomaniac will get the picture. Hit him where it hurts. The box office…
Oh, so not spending money on Tom’s movies is gonna make him change his mind? You must be crazy in addition to depressed to believe that.
Also, when you call the e-meter a joke you obviously don’t know sh*t about it. I’ll bet you think it’s a crude lie detector with soup cans. Wrong! Why don’t you read about it before making silly assumptions. Auditing is a psuedoscience? Probably, because it’s part of a RELIGION. Religions aren’t science remember? But what makes you think it’s so wrong? You even know how it works? And Narcanon, what the h*ll? If there’s an effective program out there that gets people off drugs I say we should back that up 100%. At least they don’t hand out methadone there which is just as addictive as heroin.
