29 Aug

The Rescue Post has seen sense and retracted its post that destroyed the confidentiality of children, so – as per my promise in my post – I’ve retracted my post which highlighted their irresponsible actions.

Good job. Whatever went into the decision at the “post”, it was a good move on their part.

Yeah, I’m glad they took it down.

Well, did they “retract” it or just kind of make it disappear? To my mind, a retraction ought to involve some acknowledgment that the post existed, and some explanation of why it’s not there anymore. If any of that exists, i didn’t see it.

A retraction equates to acknowledging flaws in the content. I am sure that Kent stands by every word he wrote. He has belatedly decided that it was a mistake to publish in a way that invite others to identify his school, his pupils and the co-workers whom he criticized. Whether it was us or his school district that persuaded him, we may never know.

Making it disappear is one thing, acknowledging and apologizing for their stupidity of allowing it to be posted is another. They still have a long way to go.

Remember when Brad had that blog named ‘rescuechronicle’ at Blogger? He ended up making the entire blog disappear. It didn’t last very long.
