David Cameron intends to cripple those with disabilities

3 Mar

Today I received an email from NAS stating:

The Government has announced a one billion pound cut to Disability Living Allowance (DLA). Next week in parliament, MPs will debate plans for a new system which could make it much harder for adults with autism to claim DLA…

For those not in the know DLA is a state benefit given to children (or their parents depending on age) and adults who have an established need based on circumstances arising from their disability. For example, my child receives DLA because xe cannot care for xyrself and needs extra help that must be accounted for. It is not a huge amount of money but for people with a disability, every single penny counts.

NAS’ email continued:

We need you to ask your MP to help protect this crucial benefit for people with autism.

Please also visit the NAS Who Benefits page to actively support the initiative and make David Cameron’s coalition led gvmt wake up to the reality that for autistic adults, DLA is a lifeline to not just personal independence but also simple everyday living.

These are tough times–the times when we need to show that support for the disabled is a priority. It isn’t as though the levels of support are even adequate during good financial times. Where are they supposed to cut?

Who was it who said societies are judged by how they look after their most vulnerable? Whoever it was, he/she wasn’t a Tory, that’s for sure.

Cutting funds to those most unable to politically defend themselves seems like cowardice to me.

David Cameron – typical Tory shit.

Nothing further to say about that guy.

[Alan Henness say] Who was it who said societies are judged by how they look after their most vulnerable?

dunno, but FDR had the same thought: “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much it is whether we provide enough for those who have little”

that a tax increase slows the economy is a myth…USA had unprecedented growth after clinton tax increases…in CA-USA the deficit is 1% of state GDP…so a 1% increase in taxes/fees would solve the problem…

no one would notice the increase in six months and it could sunset when the economy picks up…so much pol bs.

all the gov/legs know is cut programs for the least and let em eat cake…oh/and, in this time of crisis, in USA they cut taxes for rich folks and provide loopholes and breaks for corps…

some compassionate society…they dont understand their bible…they indeed “suffer the little children”…perhaps they believe we dont have enough acts of “God” suffering in this crazy world…

    Interesting philosophy he had.

Yep. We don’t agree on much, Stanley, but on this – we do.

Shows how power and money fuck people up psychologically (unless, of course, it’s the psychologically fucked-up who go into that line of ‘work’).
