A new study from Norway suggests that autism may be prevalent amongst 1% of the population, matching prevalence studies from the UK.
A sub-study of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) headed by Ms Posserud was conducted as part of the “Barn i Bergen” (Children in Bergen) project. The study shows that the diagnosis of ASD may apply to as much as one per cent of the population.
Our conclusion is that the rise in ASD can be explained mainly by the use of more thorough mapping methods and, consequently, that we are not seeing the emergence of an autism epidemic,” says Ms Posserud, who is a doctor and researcher in the field of child psychiatry at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen.
“”The clinical test revealed several additional cases of the disorder. This suggests that a diagnosis of ASD cannot be ruled out merely on the basis of interviews with the parents,” Ms Posserud explains.”
Children and adults are missed. You can’t do a simple “survey” of those already diagnosed and consider that an accurate number.
But still there is no support for efforts to find and support those missed. People promoting the “epidemic” have shown little interest in finding accurate numbers.
Hardly original , again the Pharma push on trying to hide the epedemic of Autism..no doubt it calms the mind of the pro-vaccine lobby to tell such big fat porkies..oink!oink!!
Deadly Choices – Paul’s Porkies

Naturally I started with the Prologue, where the first sentence read; “There’s a war going on out there – a quiet, deadly war.”
Journalistically, this is called “setting the scene” – grab people by the scruff of the neck, and tell them what the problem is. A deadly war. “Why is that?” you will ask. The prologue meanders for a few lines discussing the “goodies”, and then pouncing on the “baddies” who threaten us all, … in this deadly war. Line 16 contains the punchline: “Some (parents) aren’t giving any vaccines at all; since 1991, the percentage of unvaccinated children has more than doubled”.
Now this is interesting, because – it’s NOT the truth. How do I know? I was in the USA in 1990, and 1993. 1993 was particularly interesting for two reasons:
Sorry to necromance this thread, but has anyone found a link or a publication citation for the actual study? I found this statment from the Research Council of Norway (http://www.forskningsradet.no/en/Newsarticle/No_autism_epidemic/1253964957043), and this link to the Barn i Bergen Project website does not list the study among their publications (http://www.helse.uni.no/publications.aspx?ci=6241).
