ABC News: Experts: No Link Between Asperger’s, Violence

16 Dec

ABC News is running a story in response to the speculation that the shooter in the Newtown  Connecticut murders was autistic. In Experts: No Link Between Asperger’s, Violence they write:

While an official has said that the 20-year-old gunman in the Connecticut school shooting had Asperger’s syndrome, experts say there is no connection between the disorder and violence.

Asperger’s is a mild form of autism often characterized by social awkwardness.

“There really is no clear association between Asperger’s and violent behavior,” said psychologist Elizabeth Laugeson, an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The story continues

I greatly appreciate ABC news pulling in these experts.

The disease Asperger’s Syndrome is caused by vaccine injury and the psych drugs used to control it are made by same company that made the terrorist sick.

No scientific data exists anywhere to support the claim that vaccines are in any way related to Asperger’s Syndrome or any other condition on the autism spectrum.

There are not any psych drugs that are created to control anything about Asperger’s Syndrome. Some doctors might prescribe medication (Risperdal) for those with ASD, but it does nothing for them but act as a chemical restraint and in my opinion is highly unethical to use in such a way, and it is actually meant for treatment of Schizophrenia and some symptoms of bi-polar disorder, neither of which is anything like any ASD.

Nobody with a confirmed ASD has ever been called a terrorist. Your statements is completely fabricated, ignorant and inflammatory, and you clearly have never known anyone with an ASD if you can say that on a blog that is frequented by people with and advocates for those with ASDs.

Matt, I’d request that this comment be deleted, just simply because of the hateful intent which it was posted with, but this is your blog so that will be your call.

Lara, I’d like Matt to keep that post up….if only to show the colossal ignorance of the poster.

I can only imagine that turmoil that you with a child diagnosed with an ASD and autistic adults have felt, since the first reporters conjured up the utterly ridiculous linking of ASDs with the violent acts of murder committed at the Sandy Point School.

Science bloggers, autistic bloggers and autism advocates really have had an impact on the retraction of those earlier false reports. We are now seeing real experts setting the record straight.

lilady, my comment was reactionary, of course. It frightened me to see someone actually say that here. You are right though, people need to see the ignorance, and the hate, and it doesn’t look too grand that such intolerance is linked to Christian Counseling. I sent you a private email by the way. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Yes autistic people are often targets of sick people who prey on vulnerable people. Worse, they sometimes blame parents when their autistic children is abused, as if the person with autism is less than human and somehow just being autistic is a reason you can abuse them! How screwed up is our world? Caregivers caught on tape punching, kicking and poking eye of severely autsitic man deny all charges also take a new twist by blaming mom of autistic child, for being a “high maintence mom” who demands high standard of care for her autistic son, as if that justifies caregivers abusing him! Just horrific. I guess it’s open season on autistic people. See channel 8 san diego news: December 27, 2012

I put a short piece up pointing to that story. That video is disturbing.
