Autism Science Digest was an effort by AutismOne to publish their take on autism science in a magazine format for a general audience. AutismOne is best known for their annual parent convention which focused largely on alternative medicine and vaccine causation.
It is about the time that AutismOne should be publishing their speaker list for next year’s conference so I checked their website. For those interested, the speaker list reads like most past lists. Andrew Wakefield, the former researcher who promoted the idea that the MMR vaccine causes autism, will speak. So will Keri Rivera, who last year gathered much criticism for promoting forcing disabled children to ingest bleach or undergo bleach laced enemas. Interestingly, neither Mark nor David Geier are on the list. The Geiers have been frequent speakers at AutismOne and other venues favorable to their failed ideas about mercury in vaccines causing autism, as well as bizarre proposals that using drugs to shut down sex hormone production can be used to treat autism. While not a regular at AutismOne, Luc Montagnier will not make a return visit. Last year Dr. Montagnier brought the prestige of a Nobel Laureate to the convention. While his presence was touted strongly by supporters of AutismOne, Dr. Montagnier’s ideas were lacking the scientific rigor one might expect from a Nobel laureate (to put it mildly). Of course Jenny McCarthy returns, perhaps to tell us all once again that those who don’t follow her ideas wish for our children to remain disabled so we can bask in the sympathy of our acquaintances.
That all said, while perusing the AutismOne website I noted that the cover for their “Autism Science Digest” hadn’t changed since my last visit. That was some time ago. The cover informs readers about the then upcoming 2012 AutismOne convention (last April), so my interest was piqued and I checked the page for the “Digest” and found this announcement: Autism Science Digest is temporarily unavailable.
One is left wondering how “temporary” temporary is in this case. Autism Science Digest was launched in August 2011 so the lifespan (should temporary=permanent) seems a bit short.

Hey Matt – I notice nobody replies to your posts any more because you only post those in favor of your cause. You and your posts have become a very biased and unbalanced and not worth reading. For a post to be interesting it has to represent both sides of the debate. You delete and censor any posts unfavorable to your cause. ps I don;t expect this will be published of course.
Wow Goldy – so for us to discuss things like our Moon Landings, we need to also give equal time to those that think it was a hoax?
Absolutely not, when one side of an argument has no fact, evidence or reputable science to back it up, it isn’t actually an argument…..
Since there really isn’t any actual facts, science or evidence on the anti-vaccine side of this debate, it doesn’t deserve equal weight, other than to continue to show how hollow and empty their arguments are.
i love reading this blog. i find it very informative and a huge help in identifying the quackery that goes on around autism. i guess if one agrees with the blogger they don’t often make comments.
So, what would be the other side of this issue, Goldy? Do you have hidden issues of the Autism Science Digest somewhere that you can share with us?
Oh, I know. Another side of the issue could be to list the real science that is going on the field of autism, for example, the upcoming IMFAR meeting in May 2013. I am sure that Matt will be sharing some of the interesting work to be presented there, once the program is up. That will be new work, rather than the regurgitated talks at Autism One.
“ps I don;t expect this will be published of course.”
Accurate as always
Goldy, did you ever find the answers to my questions here?
@goldy
Why are you reluctant to answer Chris’ question? Afraid to answer?
Could it be because your position is ultimately untenable?
Gee Goldy, it couldn’t possibly be because we are in profound agreement would it?
So why are you reading? There is no imperative to present “both sides of the debate” when there isn’t one. Wakefield is a renowned fraud. Just because a sad little band of acolytes refuse to accept this doesn’t mean it isn’t a fact.
You sure about that? I’ve been reading your offensive blather quite a bit; perhaps you’re thinking of AoA who censors heavily.
No wonder Autism Science Digest isn’t publishing. There is no science to digest which supports the financial interests of all the quacks and charlatans who will be touting their wares.
Hmmm, come to think about that; I haven’t seen the “digest” being promoted on AoA for quite some time.
Such a shame, that this repository of *great science* is no longer publishing///sarcasm.
Strange that Keri “bleach enema” Rivera will be back but the Geiers are too-hot-to-touch? In their world, nothing seems to be off limits when “curing” autism.
I wouldn’t read too much into the Geiers not attending. For all we know they are keeping their calendars open so they can lobby for vaccines for developing countries be included in the worldwide mercury treaty.
Speaking of the Geiers. According to this ruling:

Geier ordered a bunch of refill prescriptions for himself, his son and wife, while he was prohibited from practicing medicine. The prescriptions included Viagara for both him and his son, and Finasteride for himself. Finasteride converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and is approved for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness (MPB).
