A bill has been introduced into the Senate: A bill to establish a grant program to help State and local law enforcement agencies reduce the risk of injury and death relating to the wandering characteristics of some children with autism and other disabilities. The text of the legislation has not been uploaded to to Thomas as of yet. There are only two sponsors for the bill: Charles E. Schumer and Joe Donnelly. By comparison, the Combating Autism Reauthorization Act of 2014 has 68 sponsors.
I’ll watch for the text of the language. Wandering and elopement has been an area of high focus in the autism parent communities.
