A recent news story discussed how a mother of autistic adult Chad Jackson was charged with murder. More details are now becoming available. In Autopsy: Adult son with autism starved, we learn that previous to Mr. Jackson starving to death and his doctor had ordered tests performed to determine why he was losing so much wait.
The victim’s doctor told investigators he had ordered blood tests when he became concerned about the amount of weight Chad had lost — but Yodi Jackson never had those tests done.
Yodi Jackson was Chad Jackson’s mother.

Sounds like the MD is engaging in some cover up work of his own. As an MD, he has a mandated duty to report all *suspected* occurrences of child abuse. Ordering a blood test and not following up is not remotely adequate. It’s pure speculation to question if the child being autistic played a part in the doctor’s lack of reporting. As for the mother, noting needs to be said.
I agree with your statement about “mandatory reporters” who have the duty to report *suspected cases of abuse or neglect*
In this particular case, the 25 year old young man’s “case” of suspected abuse/neglect would come under the purview of the Adult Protective Services Agency in Michigan:

Some of the commenters on the news articles (or another blog? it was a few days ago) were trying to excuse the mother by saying they can’t always get their autistic kids to eat or drink (even adult autistics). I would hope that a caregiver for an autistic of any age could figure out when to take them to the hospital for IV rehydration/feeding if they really pushed “don’t wanna eat/drink” to the point of illness. And that a doctor could figure out when a mother doesn’t seem to be doing this.
Antwan Vandee looks and smells like Spam.
Yes spam. Ugly spam. Spam for a food supplements website in a post about someone being starved to death. Ugly.
I knew Yodi ” Ann ” Jackson. She never liked her son, felt he was an embarrassment and only had him on weekends. After her mother passed I suppose she had to keep him. Chad was a happy, fun spirited young man.
He had very special needs. I remember her always telling him to go to his room anytime he’d try to come out. He liked to eat, he just needed help with basically everything like a toddler and he couldn’t really speak but he was very happy and enjoyed watching t.v. while he was visiting on weekends cooped up in his room.
I was young but I knew it was wrong the way she kept him shut up in his room when he came to visit. She was a teen mother, he was her oldest and she never really took care of him. She could have put him in a home instead of killing him. She deserves to live the rest of her life in prison. And to her teenage son and daughter… I hope they can sleep night. Rest in peace Chad. You didn’t deserve to die like that. We all remember you.
I know Yodi and the whole family. Chad was taken care of by her mother until she died. Very happy autistic child. I wish things had turned out differently. Love and memories Chad. I pray for Yodi
No. He was not taken care of by his mother. He didn’t have to die. It can’t get more clear than that.
