In a recent article, Advocates Push Federal Law Allowing Same-Sex Parents to Adopt
I found this section particularly interesting:
About 2 million children in the United States are being raised by LGBT families, according to the recent report. The study said 3 percent of foster children nationwide live with LGBT parents.
Gay and lesbian parents are raising 32 percent of foster-care children with special needs, Hecht-McGowan said.
32% of special needs kids in foster care are being raised by gay and lesbian parents.
Good luck with this. The country clearly needs more parents willing to adopt and foster. The bigots who claim LGBT parents should not be allowed to do this are showing their moral degradation and should be ashamed of the loss to children of potential loving parents.
I was aware of a high proportion of HIV positive kids fostered by LGBT parents. Are they numbered as special needs? I wouldn’t have thought so these days – except for the prejudice they face. But I suspect that for adoption or fostering they are considered special needs. Does the report go in to more detail?
This report had me thinking: why do we more media blurg about fundies having 17 kids, than gay families fostering special needs kids. The media enabling wilful ignorance.
